Gr 6-8-This somewhat dry, yet informative and evenhanded title is quite thorough in its coverage. The need for pesticides, their history, benefits, and negative aspects are all given equal coverage. Yount also discusses the birth of the environmental movement after the publication of Rachel Carson's Silent Spring biological alternatives to chemical pesticides, and the genetic engineering of bug-resistant plants. Black-and-white photographs, graphs, and political cartoons enhance the text. A good resource for report writers.-Helen Rosenberg, Chicago Public Library, ILBook Details
