Gr 4-6-The lives of two explorers are encapsulated in these brief, readable, attractively illustrated volumes. However, the accounts lack depth in terms of explaining the subjects' motivations and the cultures of the peoples they encountered. The map in Champlain is difficult to read and does not include many of the places mentioned in the text; one of the pictures in Pizarro has a caption that is contradicted in the text. The books are illustrated with many reproductions, most of which are in full color. Adequate, although flawed, sources for reports.-Marilyn Long Graham, Lee County Library System, Fort Myers, FLBook Details
