Gr 2-4-Two series entries with strong visual appeal. Catchy text and amazing full-color, closeup photographs show carnivores Catching a Meal. A bobcat overtakes a rabbit, a bat swoops down on a moth, and a chameleon's long tongue reaches out for a fly. Such subject matter is sure to capture and hold children's attention. The scenes of a horned frog swallowing a mouse and an octopus feeding on a dogfish are spectacular. Pollinating a Flower, though less sensational, is no less educational. Colorful stop-action photographs include a bat hovering over a tropical flower, a pollen-coated bee visiting a dandelion, and a large night-flying moth gathering nectar. In both books, the brief texts are more like extended captions than straight narratives. A useful feature is the inclusion of follow-up projects. Although the main appeal here will be to browsers, there is enough information for beginning researchers.-Eunice Weech, M.L. King Elementary School, Urbana, IL
