Overview

Forget the glass and ceramics; just put polymer clay through a pasta machine to make very thin sheets, cut that into small squares, and voila! Crafters have mosaic tiles in whatever shape and color they want, perfect for gluing onto any surface for beautiful decorative objects. And because the polymer weighs so much less than ceramic, these tesserae work better on smaller projects, and offer more flexibility. Simple instructions and color photos present all the basics of this appealing craft, and the great projects include jewelry, mirror decorations, house signs, coasters, tabletops, garden items, and more.

Library Journal

The versatility of polymer clay as a craft medium is well demonstrated in both these books. Pavelka (Polymer Clay Extravaganza) provides projects for experienced crafters, including such things as a three-dimensional clock, a photo bracelet, and an embossed clay-on-metal evening bag. She describes all the latest techniques, including a photo-transfer process using gin. The mosaic projects in Wells's book are less complicated flat-surface decorations on jewelry and household items. The TV and film artist includes instructions for making one's own clay tiles to complete the projects. Both books would be welcome in crafts collections needing more material on polymer clay.
