Synopsis

Expressing concern about continuing world population growth, Weeks (San Diego State University) reviews world population trends, the major perspectives on population change, and the sources of data that form the basis of demographic trends. The textbook then describes the mortality, fertility, and migration transitions transforming the world, and examines the interaction of population processes and societal changes according to demographic characteristics. The ninth edition has been pared down to 13 chapters and reflects new data and trends in the field. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
