Library Journal

This stimulating collection is part of a series on the changing global role of the United States. The book focuses on global environmental issues, including population growth, deforestation, species loss, the ozone layer, energy, climate change, economic policies, and implications for U.S. policy. A team of experts prepared the chapters to serve as background reading for an American Assembly held in April 1990, the final report of which is included here. The experience and knowledge of the authors is evident throughout, and the book makes a valuable contribution. It is recommended for academic and special libraries; public libraries would be better served with Cheryl Silver's One Earth, One Future ( LJ 9/15/90), which is less comprehensive but more accessible.-- Richard Shotwell, Hancock Shaker Village, Pittsfield, Mass.
