Synopsis

The aim of this book is to explore the phenomena underlying earthquake fracture and present a general theoretical model for earthquake source processes.

Booknews

This book explores the basic physical phenomena underlying earthquake fracture and presents a general theoretical model for earthquake source processes. Divided into three sections on: continuum and fracture, inversion for source parameters, and specific earthquake source models. The first two sections are adapted from the Russian monograph Mechanics of the tectonic earthquake focus, by B.V. Kostrov, which was first published in 1975 by Kauka, Moscow. The third section is new. The books is meant primarily for graduate students and for teachers of earthquake source theory, though it may be useful for individuals in mathematics and engineering with an interest in or working on related seismic problems.
