From The Critics
Reviewer: Michael J. Bamdad, MA, CCC-SLP(George Washington University)Description: Professional communication is covered extensively in this book about basic practices for a speech-language pathologist, and this is clearly a strength of the book. Basic clinical competencies are also covered, such as report writing, goal production, and professional correspondence.
Purpose: Professional appearance, in every meaning of the word, is reviewed.
Audience: The book is written for undergraduate students majoring in speech and hearing science. Although the authors state the book also has value for graduate students, it is probably less useful for them.
Features: Clearly the emphasis of the book is on professionalism as this is covered more thoroughly than other topics. A weakness of the book is the limited how-to content. Figures are often helpful in explaining the information.
Assessment: Overall, this is a high quality book that will be useful to and appropriate for students working to be speech-language clinicians. Professional communication clearly has a significant impact on an individual's success in the field.
