About the Author, Michael J. Smith

Michael J. Smith, DSW, is Professor at the Hunter College School of Social Work in New York City. He has specialized in social work research throughout his career. He teaches research in the Masters and the Doctoral Program at the Hunter College School of Social Work. He also teaches a course in program evaluation in the Health Advocacy Program at Sarah Lawrence College. Dr. Smith has published in the areas of program evaluation, family care of the developmentally disabled, mental health, child welfare and youth programs, single-parent family, and family care of the elderly. He has been employed as a researcher at the Community Service Society of New York and the Child Welfare League of America. He has been a research consultant to many social welfare agencies in New York City.
