Overview

Greenbaum (emeritus, City U. of New York) presents a brief history of the American progressive movement in the first half of this volume, tracing its trajectory from the early 1900s to the end of World War I and describing some of their most important engagements with a range of political and economic issues of the time. The latter half of the text is comprised of a collection of representative documents and includes excerpts of Thorstein Veblen's The Theory of Business Enterprise, Jane Addams' Twenty Years at Hull House, Theodore Roosevelt's Message to the Two Houses of Congress (December 5, 1905), and Upton Sinclair's The Jungle.
