Children's Literature - Denise Daley

Few adults can resist the urge to cuddle an adorable fluffy white puppy playing in the grass. Likewise, few children will be able to resist opening this book and enjoying the lovable puppies inside. The lovely photographs accompany two words of text on every page of this beautiful book. Playful young dogs frolic about and easy words are used to describe either them or their behavior. The print is large and repetition is used, making this an ideal book for those just learning how to read. Additionally, the puppies are often involved in conflicting and contradictory behaviors, so this book is a recommended tool for introducing the concept of opposites to young children. The words occasionally rhyme and there is a rhythmic pattern that, combined with the adorable photographs, creates a book that is attractive, educational, and entertaining.

School Library Journal

PreS-K-A brief rhyming text is accompanied by full-color, full-page photographs of fluffy, white-haired puppies in various states of activity. Large, two-word captions accompany each picture ("Puppy large/Puppy small/Puppy white/Puppy ball"). Although some of the language (such as "Puppy prance" and "Puppy pair") may be too sophisticated for the intended audience, adults can use the photos to explain the unfamiliar terms. An adorable addition for animal collections.-Cathie Bashaw Morton, Millbrook Central School District, NY Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
