Overview

RAF Tangmere became an important fighter station in the 1920s and 1930s. This role continued throughout World War II and beyond. Its importance in defending the UK and in delivering agents into and out of occupied France cannot be overestimated. Postwar Tangmere continued as a fighter airfield as it entered the jet age. In 1970, this illustrious airfield closed down. These pages recapture the spirit of Tangmere in over 250 photographs, telling the tale of this historic air station and commemorating those who served there.
