ea. vol: illus. reprods. bibliogs. in dex. (The Isms Series). CIP. Green haven Pr. Mar. 1986. PLB $11.95; pap. $6.95. Gr 9-12Two more titles in an excel lent series. Feminism considers wom en's suffrage, the pros and cons of mar riage, sexual differences, and feminism's effect on contemporary so ciety. Racism addresses America's his torical imperialist policies, past immi gration policies, I.Q. testing, prevalence of racial discrimination, and the nature of racism. Format is uniform throughout the series. Each of five chapters is devoted to an aspect of the issue and introduced by an objective summary of the controversy; each con tains five to eight readings from a wide range of sources (Emma Goldman, Phyllis Schlafly, Adolf Hitler, Elijah Muhammad, etc.). At the end of each chapter a ``critical thinking skill'' is dis cussed. The juxtaposition of persuasive arguments (edited carefully to preserve each proponent's position and logic) which represent opposing viewpoints provides excellent practice in critical reading and thinking skills. Of use to libraries serving high-school stu dents.Tess McKellen, Packer Colle giate Institute, Brooklyn
