Overview

Green survived a tornado, but now the town faces a new storm—one that threatens the schools!

As Green continues to recover from a horrendous tornado, newlyweds Lois and Chris just want to return to a normal life in their home on Route Two.

But even more threats to Green loom on the horizon. The state of Louisiana announces plans to close Green’s schools, which will put Chris out of work and end a long-standing tradition of community pride. Lois and Chris know the loss will crush the community and harm students forced to travel more than an hour to classes. Then there’s that new highway that’s creeping even closer . . .

But Green has another tradition: Rallying around each other. Newspaper owner Lois, Mayor Eva, and college students unite to fight the bureaucrats, with some surprising—and unexpected results.

"This charming series will appeal to fans of Jan Karon and Philip Gulley for its homespun feel." - Library Journal

Publishers Weekly

In Christie’s next installment in the ongoing Green series, there’s no rest for the weary townspeople of Green, La., after a devastating tornado. An educational consultant sashays into town to close down Green High, whose students aren’t meeting state benchmarks. Consultant Marcus Hillburn has a very willing helper in Priscilla Robinson, a snake-like new administrator at the high school. Meanwhile, newlyweds Lois Barker Craig and her husband, Chris, a teacher and coach at the high school, are having their home rebuilt; a high school student sustains a serious injury; and a few bad pennies depicted in previous books return to the action. Christie has developed a sweet community, with dogs that can be depended on for comic relief and assorted quirky townspeople with varying histories, squarely in the vein of Jan Karon’s Mitford or Charlene Baumbich’s Partonville. Christie is capable of more depth—there is some subtle and believable redemption taking place—but Green fans will rally to this next edition for newspaper owner Lois and her smalltown friends. (Nov.)

Library Journal

Christie continues the story of Lois and Chris, who married in the last book (The Glory of Green), with this fourth installment. The newlyweds have just returned home to Green, LA, when the state announces the closure of Green's schools. The closures will put Chris out of work and result in the bussing of Green's students to another parish. In typical fashion, the residents of Green rally together to fight for what's right. VERDICT This charming series will appeal to fans of Jan Karon and Philip Gulley for its homespun feel.
