Overview
"Pragmatism is an approach to philosophy that puts practice at center stage and sees efficacy in practical activities as a prime goal of human endeavor" (from chapter one). In this text, Rescher (philosophy, U. of Pittsburgh) uses nine thematically interwoven essays to explore the functionalist pragmatic roots of the theory of knowledge. Some of the topics addressed within this framework include the distinction between reality and fiction, the connections between epistemic and moral evaluation and justification, and the existence of necessarily unknowable but equally unspecifiable truths as a limit of inquiry. The volume does not contain a subject index. Annotation Β©2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, ORBook Details
