Although slowed somewhat by the high cost, a revolution created by digital cameras is taking place in all areas of photography, from the business office of the commercial photo shop to the artist's studio. Farace (The Photographer's Internet Handbook, LJ 6/1/97) discusses critical questions--such as image quality, long a concern of purists--as well as the types of digital cameras currently available. He also addresses computers, scanners, printers, and other related equipment and software. Farace then deals at length with image acquisition, conversion and delivery of digital photographs, and filing and storing images. The appendixes provide excellent information on setting up a home-based digital studio, as well as a glossary and a directory of manufacturers and suppliers. This excellent, in-depth source provides nearly everything one needs to know to make the transition from silver-based to digital photography. Although directed primarily to professional photographers, this book is an excellent resource for anyone interested in the relationship of cameras and computers.
