Synopsis

Carly wants to scream when she picks weird Dustin Groat for the class interview assignment. She'll never get to be editor of the sixth-grade newspaper interviewing a grungy, creepy kid like him. But beneath Dustin's sullen exterior, Carly discovers a boy who is struggling with the suicide of his mother, an abusive father who runs an illegal drug lab and a gun-trading ring, and a secret so dark and deep, he'll never let it out. Or will he? In Reaching Dustin, the acclaimed author of The Crystal Garden and Rimwalkers delivers a powerful coming-of-age story about a frightened boy who finally reaches out for help-and the caring girl who reaches back, to right a wrong and help him. Vicki Grove lives in Ionia, MO.
