Nicole Peterson - Children's Literature
Reading is an important skill for young children to learn. Reading is important for the physical growth of a child's brain in the first few years of life. This title gives parents and teachers interesting activities to use when teaching young children the basics of reading. The book is divided into sections: "Alliteration Games," "Alphabet Games," "Oral Blending and Segmenting Games," "Word Games," and "Writing Games." These sections give adults plenty of resources to help children at whatever reading level they happen to be. Each game title has a sentence underneath to show what skills the game is teaching the childlistening, rhyming, vocabulary, observation, sounds, etc. Most of the games can be played with a piece of paper and a pencil. Some of the games require more planning and preparation. The last section of the book contains "reading milestones." This is a section that states that by a certain age children should be able to complete/understand x amount of reading skills. 2005, Gryphon House, Ages 3 to 6.
