Library Journal
Regenstein has written an interesting and important monograph. While his enthusiasm for animal rights and conservation sometimes overpowers his scholarship (e.g., he calls St. Thomas More an archbishop), Regenstein provides a competent summary of Christian and Jewish attitudes toward animal rights from antiquity to the present day. He also provides a brief treatment of Buddhist, Hindu, and Islamic attitudes on animal rights and conservation issues. Although some of his sources are dated, his overall treatment is sound and should appeal to a wide audience.-- Susan A. Stussy, Barton Cty. Community Coll., Great Bend, Kan.Book Details
