Gr 3-5-- The threatened survival of the rhino and giant panda is the focus of these two titles. Rhino discusses the differences and similarities of the five species. A fact box lists physical characteristics and the number of rhinos currently in the wild. Reasons for their decreasing population are clearly presented. In Panda , the emphasis is on how a solitary lifestyle has jeopardized the giant panda's survival. Of particular note is a section listing all zoos in which pandas can be seen. Both titles discuss the efforts of organizations and wildlife preserves to breed these animals in captivity. Simple glossaries and indexes are included, as are lists of further reading. Full-color photographs, while not exceptional, are succinctly captioned and reinforce the large-type text. These titles are similar in scope to those found in the ``Project Wildlife'' series (Gloucester), and are timely resources for those interested in the subject. --Diane Nunn, Richard E.
