Children's Literature -
Road rollers are just one of the large pieces of equipment at construction sites. Read to find out basically what these machines do and how they get the job done. Readers may examine the color photographs from smoothing asphalt for roads to flattening trash at a landfill. The text-supportive snapshots help to differentiate between two types of drums on the rollers and the work done with them. The book is designated as "Blastoff Readers Level 1" which is the easiest level. The informational text features are kept to a minimum; the features include bold print words, a glossary, and an index. Although there is a table of contents, the chapter headings are not printed on the page. The layout is consistent; the multiple lines of text on the left page are one to two sentences with a photo on the right. However, some readers may need support with the content vocabulary. For those children who would like more information about road rollers, there is a list with additional books and a web available. The web site is comprised of a list of different sites on mighty machines; readers will find user ratings on the sites. This book is from the "Mighty Machines" series which describe other large machinery. Reviewer: Carrie Hane HungBook Details
