Gr 4-6-Fox traces rocket science from its beginnings with the Chinese (A.D. 1231) to the present. She provides an introduction to how rockets work and describes their use in World War II, the Apollo Moon mission, and the space shuttle. Airplanes includes a capsulized history of flight, an explanation of how planes work, different types of military and civilian aircraft, and speculation about the future of aviation. Emphasizing the heroes and heroines of aviation and rocketry, these titles feature a multiethnic selection of biographical sketches of pilots, inventors, engineers, and astronauts. Each book is attractively laid out with clear, full-color photographs and reproductions and occasional diagrams to clarify and explain the technology.
