Overview

One of three novels on which Joseph Conrad and Ford Madox Ford collaborated, Romance tells the story of John Kemp, who dreams of adventure but has never set foot beyond the boundary of the family farm. Kemp gets more than he bargained for when adventure comes knocking in the form of two Spanish travelers who need help.

About the Author, Joseph Conrad

Joseph Conrad (1857-1924), born the son of a noble Polish family as JΓ³zef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski, rechristened himself with his pen name. He became one of the greatest prose stylists and novelists in the English language. A precursor to modernist literature, he mined his experiences in the French and British navies to create tragic tales that simultaneously delve into worldwide issues and the individual soul.

Ford Madox Ford (1873–1939) was an English novelist, poet, critic and editor who is best remembered for his novels The Good Soldier (1915) and Parade’s End. He collaborated with Conrad on three novels: Romance, The Inheritors, and The Nature of a Crime.
