Synopsis

Wu (English language and literature, St. Catherine's College, Oxford) presents a comprehensive anthology of works by English Romantic writers organized chronologically by the writer's date of birth and, within that, the writer's output. An introduction precedes each writer's works, and they range from poetry to prose to letters. A sample of writers includes Thomas Paine, Mary Wollstonecraft, Charlotte Smith, William Blake, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Felicia Dorothea Hemans, John Keats, and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. The third edition has a new introduction, a timeline, 36 color and b&w illustrations, writing by women, longer excerpts, and critical reading lists. Annotation ©2005 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
