Overview

The comprehensively updated and expanded new edition of this no-nonsense student and practice primer equips the contemporary architect to deal with the profession's most important challenge: designing buildings for sustainability. Brian Edwards' book pulls together many of the disparate, complex strands of sustainability into one simple reference source. It sets out the environmental, professional and governmental context underlying sustainable principles, as well as outlining the science, measures and design solutions that designers need to adopt. The third edition includes updated design advice on offices, schools, housing and urban design, provides a useful history of green architecture education and presents a guide to the international conventions and agreements from the Rio Summit to Kyoto and the more recent UN Climate Change conference held in Poznan in 2008. It also includes new material prepared in anticipation of fresh international agreements at the Copenhagen Conference on Global Warming held in 2009. Stunningly redesigned and extensively illustrated throughout, 'Rough Guide to Sustainability' will appeal to design and built environment students and professionals, and anyone keen to cut through to the avalanche of facts and myths about sustainability.
