Overview
It’s bath time for Scruff. But does anyone know where he’s hiding? Have the cows seen him? Moo-no! How about the pigs? Oink-no! Looking for that dog is just too tough! But not for toddlers. If they look carefully, they’ll find Scruff hiding on every pop-up page!
The creators of Who’s Under That Hat? have invented a hide-and-seek adventure with textures to touch, flaps to lift, and lots of pop-up surprises on every page!

Children's Literature
The creators of Who's Under That Hat? collaborate again for another lift-the-flap pop-up adventure. Scruff the dog is always one step ahead of his owner as he tries to escape his bath. Seven bucolic farm scenes unfold as the little white terrier teasingly pops up behind cows, a sow and her piglets, browsing sheep, ducks in a pond, lettuce-munching rabbits, and the entire barnyard gathered in the barn. Sarah Weeks' narrative has the right touch of simple rhyme and repetition for little ones. David A. Carter's watercolors and palette are bright and splashy, while his combination of flaps large enough for small fingers, hiding pop-ups that disguise Scruff in turn, are clever. The denouement of the hunt is clever, too, but will not be given away. This is a sturdy book with heavy covers, pages the thickness of a board book, and stiff flaps that should stand the wear of many fingers and readings. 2006, Red Wagon Books/Harcourt, Ages 2 to 5.—Kathleen Karr
