Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot

Molly seems to be a kid who is just in the wrong place at the wrong time. She rides a bike without a helmet, does not stop, look and listen when crossing the street. She falls in dog poop, her dog falls through the ice on the skating pond. She goes up the slide the wrong way and does not avoid strange dogs or even strangers (this scenario may raise some eyebrows). She gets lost in the store, but is smart enough to remember the advice of her parents. With a bit of help she is reunited with her parents. The experience must have been traumatic, because Molly suddenly changes her ways. The book concludes with "Notes for Parents and Teachers." The note summarizes the story and points out what the message is. This title and others in the "Looking After Me" series meet K-4 health education standards in Canada and the United States. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
