Overview

When Edwin Francis, an eighteen-year-old shoemaker from the west of England, sailed on board the Clara Symes from Bristol on 16 October 1852, he took with him a notebook, intending to write up every day the events of the long voyage to Australia. This book is based on real pieces of diaries found written on the voyage to Australia.
