Overview
On August 9, 1990, teenage American Jeff Connors enters the lobby of a four-star hotel in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, dressed in the ragged clothes of an Arab Bedouin. He has managed to escape across the desert from Kuwait, trying to avoid capture, or worse, by an invading Iraqi army. He’s there to be reunited with his father, from whom he’d been separated for one terror-filled week.His happiness and relief are tempered by one vexing problem: should he give his judgmental father a short and sanitized version of his week, one which would make him look competent and in control, or should he "lay it all out? The bonehead decisions? The risks? The narrow escapes?" In the end, he does all that and more, thanks to a new-found sense of courage and resourcefulness.
