School Library Journal
Gr 5-9-Two fluffy superstar biographies that don't tell readers much more than they could get from fan magazines. Gellar's life is hardly the stuff of compelling biography. Readers are told about her childhood in New York City, appearances in Burger King commercials, and later attendance at the Professional Children's School. A photo shows another school she attended, and the caption states that she was a student here briefly but found PCS a better match. Why not, then, show that school? Hill is a tad more interesting. The star's personal life includes adoption, divorce, the search for her birth mother, and her relationship with country-star Tim McGraw. The story is padded with some information on the origins of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, which is actually more interesting than Hill's life after she makes it big. Both books have lists of accomplishments, but no source notes. They are illustrated with credited color photos. Certainly Gellar will interest fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Hill, country-music fans, but that about marks the limit. Order accordingly.-Tim Wadham, Maricopa County Library District, Phoenix, AZ Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
