Description:This pathophysiology book, part of the Nursing Survival Guide series, presents the information in a format that enables students to learn more easily about a difficult subject.
Purpose:The purpose is to present "need to know information in a complete easy-to-learn format." This type of book is extremely useful to nursing students in mastering content about pathophysiology. The clear concise nature of the text accomplishes the objectives.
Audience:It is intended for nursing students learning pathophysiology, which is the basis for many courses in the nursing program. With their clinical and academic expertise, the authors are well prepared to write this book.
Features:The book is organized using a medical model and under each system, specific disorders are presented. For example, under endocrine function the content is divided into: pitutary, thyroid, adrenal, and diabetes. In the chapter on diabetes, the content is outlined by pathogenesis, at risk populations, clinical manifestations, prognosis, treatment, and nursing responsibilities.
Assessment:The authors present information in a way that facilitates learning and understanding of the content by nursing students. The authors also provide useful Web sites for further information. I would recommend using this book as a supplement to class and the primary pathophysiology textbook.
