School Library Journal

Gr 4-6-Appealing looks at inhabitants of the world's oceans, delivered in a question-and-answer format. Subheadings give further clues about the information contained in the texts. For example, Sea Turtles features a chapter entitled "How Many Kinds of Sea Turtles Are There?" in which the seven species are individually profiled. The information is presented clearly, and is accessible to independent readers. Scientific terms are boldfaced and defined in the glossary. All of the basic facts are covered, including the animals' habitats, what they eat, and how they reproduce, as well as human impact (both positive and negative) on them. Good-quality, full-color photos nicely complement the texts. These serviceable additions to natural-history collections will answer the questions of most curious youngsters and should meet the requirements of most report writers.-Arwen Marshall, Minneapolis Public Library Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
