Synopsis

Bethany Lindstrom, a graduate student in history, wants the same things as any ambitious historian: worldwide academic recognition, a series of brilliant papers, and a reputation that places her in the front ranks of her peers. She’s well on the way to achieving her goals when her trip to the U.K. to work on a dig at Oxford goes awry from the moment she lands at Heathrow. A missing taxi, and enigmatic acquaintance, and an unplanned trip to Cornwall form no part of her plans. Then, as she wanders around her hostess’s ancient home, searching for history, she stumbles through an unseen portal to the fourteenth century.

Stranded in 1353 Cornwall, Bethany must find a way back home or face a life of falsehoods and peril. But with the stern overlord Sir Michael Veryan, she is swept into the dangerous intrigues of King Edward’s court, which will test their mettle and their faith in God to the limits–and forever bind their lives together.

About the Author, Deborah Kinnard

Deb started writing at age ten, frustrated because there was no preteen girl with a horse on Bonanza. While raising two active girls and cherishing her husband, she has enjoyed a career that encompasses Spanish translation, volunteer work at a crisis line, years in assorted ERs that don't resemble the one on TV, and a day job at a big Chicago teaching hospital. Deb keeps busy with reading, playing the guitar, participating in an outreach team at church, and skiing in the winter. Deb is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers and serves as secretary to the Chicago-Northwest Chapter.

Editorials

Seasons in the Mist Takes the reader into the past along with Bethany and makes both the setting and the story come alive. Since Seasons in the Mist is the first of a series, I wondered about the ending. Would it be stretched out to many books? No. This story wraps up satisfactorily, leaving the reader feeling this was a worthwhile and uplifting read. Faith element: High

This book was especially fun because Bethany, an educated and opinionated modern woman, had to try to fit into a world where women were not expected to be educated or outspoken. I loved getting such a close look at the little everyday details of medieval life, and there was an element of suspense to it all. This was a great read! I happily recommend Seasons in the Mist to fans of historical fiction and readers who like stories involving time travel.

Simply put, phenomenal. Deb Kinnard has written a smart, fun story that combines what I love most about history with what I love most about contemporaries. We still get the voice of a modern woman, and hearing her describe medieval things in modern terms is sometimes hilarious and always eye-opening. What both Bethany and the reader quickly come to see is that, no matter the year you’re walking in, people are still people. You’re going to get a blast out of this trip through time!
