WomanSource Catalog & Review: Tools for Connecting the Community for Women

Interestingly enough, according to alarm installers I spoke with, no official codes and standards exist in this country for alarm installation. Written in Great Britain (where there are standards), this book gives an excellent overview of security systems, as well as specifications on planning, design and installation. All the options, like monitors, sensors, pressure mats, zone protection, sirens, etc., are outlined and detailed to help you select those that best fit your needs. The book's primary focus is on protecting businesses with a chapter devoted specifically to residential systems. There is a general section on security and crime prevention (break-ins, burglary, shoplifting, employee theft) along with an illustrated technical section for actual installation. If you are considering investing in a security system for either your home or business, I highly recommend reading this before you spend your money. Most of the other information I've seen takes the form of promotional material from companies that sell alarm systems.
