Overview

Providing design criteria that are more stringent than normal building codes, and rightly so, this Standard addresses ground shaking but not other earthquake effects as differential fault displacement and seismic slope instability. It uses the Target Performance Goal design approach of the US Department of Energy Natural Phenomena Hazard (NPH) Standards and is intended to be used with other applicable documents on structures, systems and components. The Standard includes information on earthquake ground motion, evaluation of seismic demand and structural capacity, load combinations and acceptance criteria for structures ad ductile detailing requirements, equipment and distributions systems, seismic quality provisions and special considerations and includes commentary.
