Overview

As Jordana and Brenton Baldwin travel west with Caitlan O'Connor, they settle for a time in Omaha to raise money for the continuation of their trip. Jordana's discovery of an illegal land scheme by the local banker's son forces them to leave on a stagecoach, and with it she takes the knowledge that one man who got in the way is already dead.

In California, Kiernan O'Connor is injured in an explosion while working on the Central Pacific Railroad, and Victoria is suddenly forced to become the breadwinner. The arrival of the three young people is marked by joy but is also bittersweet with hard times. When it's discovered that the banker's son has followed them, the situation turns dangerous.

Ever since they first met, Brenton and Caitlan have been falling in love, but their differences appear to be taking them down separate roads. What will it take to bring them together?

In this offshoot of their "Ribbons of Steel" series, Pella and Peterson continue the story of Carolina and James Baldwin's faithful family. Jordana and Brenton Baldwin--two siblings traveling with Caitlan O'Connor, a young woman Brenton loves--interrupt their journey in Omaha to earn enough money to reach California. There, Jordana uncovers the deadly scheme of a corrupt banker's son, and the three flee. As they settle in California, the banker's son lurks in the background, awaiting his opportunity to strike. As the Baldwins' lives become increasingly dangerous, they place their safety in the hands of the Lord, where their faith has been all along. For series collections.
