The paper-over-board Seven Little Rabbits by John Becker, illus. by Barbara Cooney (first published in 1973), features a countdown as it follows the title septet when they set out to visit "old friend toad." In the pleasingly repetitive text, one by one the rabbits grow too tired to complete the journey; readers catch a glimpse of the toad at one point, but much of the book takes place in a friendly mole's abode, where all seven bunnies wind up for a nap.
