Children's Literature
Mortimer is a brown teddy bear who is posed among real objects to help kids with their math skills. In this book, the subject is shapes--flat and solid. Pictures show common objects such as blocks, buttons, coins, napkins and washcloths and Mortimer tells kids what the shape is. The final spread shows Mortimer surrounded by a series of shaped objects, and he asks kids to identify them. If the names cannot be remembered kids are urged to go back through the book. Contents page, glossary/index and listing of videos are included. Part of the "Mortimer's Math" series. 2000, Gareth Stevens, Ages 3 to 6, $19.93. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
