Synopsis

Get to know Freddy Thresher, the first grade shark expert with an uncanny knack for mischief. Join Freddy in this adventure as he schemes and scrimps, trying to earn enough money to buy an awesome fossilized shark tooth. Packed with humor, illustrations, and even factual information about sharks, the Ready, Freddy! series is perfect for the chapter book reader.

Children's Literature

In prehistoric times, Megalodons (sharks) ruled the oceans, snarling, gnashing, and gnawing their way through breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Along the way they left traces of their non-stop feasting: teeth, their only fossilized remains. Megalodons, like all sharks, have no skeletons. A Megalodon tooth is for sale at the Treasures of Time store in the mall and Freddy just has to have it. He begs and begs. The tooth costs and Freddy has only saved The salesman agrees to hold it for Freddy for a week, but the best deal Freddy can make with his mom and dad is to earn the rest of the money himself. The plan Freddy makes, and the pride he feels when he succeeds in buying the tooth, are only part of the results of this challenge. Freddy learns additional lessons about the risks of showing off and the many opportunities life offers to "make lemonade out of lemons." This book, ninth in the "Ready, Freddy" series, ends with a series of activity pages: "Freddy's Shark Journal," "Robbie's Shark Quiz," a recipe for lemonade, and "Freddy's Secret Code." It is a story of cooperation, resourcefulness, and self-reliance, with an appropriate dose of sibling discord involving three generations. This book would make a good addition to an elementary school library's selection for general reading or a science classroom's reading resources about marine life and sharks.
