Jack was not looking forward to this fishing adventure.

Sharks eat almost any sea creature, Jack thought. His teacher had said so. Jack guessed they'd eat humans too -- if they had the chance! Jack had never seen Save the Shark bumper stickers. He had never heard good news about sharks. And now Dad wanted to go shark fishing. Jack wanted to stay home. Jack opened a desk drawer. He pulled out a scrapbook. He had been saving news clippings about sharks all summer. He read the headlines. Shark Kills Boy in Surf. Caution: No Swimming! Sharks Sighted in Area. Shark Attack Suspected. Then Jack studied some of the pictures. He saw shoes, deer antlers, dog tags. All had been found in the stomach of one shark. It was scary stuff!

Jack learns about sharks and their habits while helping his father catch, tag, and release them for tracking and research purposes.
