This paraphrasing of Psalm 65 in language which connects with children is a creative work which gives new life to this Psalm of praise. Where the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) of the Bible says, "Those who live at earth's farthest bounds are awed...," this version says "People all around the world will shiver with surprise." Where the NRSV says, "You crown the year with bounty," this version paraphrases, "Every year is wonderful because of your goodness, and everywhere you go there is enough for all." Accompanying this is an engaging picture of children at a outdoor market with apples, pumpkins, and a boy holding up a hot dog and drink so the dog won't get it. Where the NRSV says, "When deeds of iniquity overwhelm us, you forgive our transgressions," this text says, "The things we do wrong make us sad, but you will help us do better." The accompanying illustration shows children in the kitchen with dribbles of dough all over and some dropping onto the dog's tongue. This is the second in a series of "Psalms for Children." With all new translations of Biblical material, there is the possibility of surprising new understanding. This joyful book will lift everyone's spirit. 2003, A Continuum Imprint/Morehouse Publishing, Ages 3 to 7.
