Synopsis

Children's Literature

Young hostesses will enjoy this short new book, in which Martha Stewart-style planning meets Miley Cirus's fan club. This handy guide about entertaining follows ten basic steps that explain how girls can plan their sleepover parties. The steps include choosing a theme, working with family members to set a date, communicating with guests, decorating, planning a menu, preparing for the party, hosting guests, addressing night owl issues, and serving breakfast. Many of the steps include helpful sidebars or "trusty tips," such as budgeting, theme suggestions, and healthy snacking. Also includes are a quiz entitled "What's your sleepover style?" Readers will appreciate a short glossary and a list of recommended titles and Internet sites. Though this text lightly skims the surface when compared to American Girl's Snooze-a-Palooza, the design is engaging and fun, and the heavy-duty binding makes it a smart choice for libraries and classrooms, where it will be passed around by party planners. Part of the "10 Things You Need to Know About" series. Reviewer: Elizabeth Sulock
