Synopsis

A Winogrand or a Weegee he's not, but Freund—a lawyer and New York native who took up photography in earnest after his retirement—does love a Manhattan street scene. His latest volume (he's also the eyes of Central Park, a Photographic Excursion, 2001) includes his commentary on the approximately 200 color and b&w images—they aren't the most sharply focused or most thrillingly composed photos readers will ever view, but they nevertheless carry a certain menschy appeal for anyone who's a fan of the restless city.
