John Philcox is the owner and director of Mobile Ventures Limited, a computer consultancy based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, in the United Kingdom, that provides technical support and management for UNIX systems and networks. He has more than 20 years of experience in ,IT in a variety of multivendor environments. His first 17 years were spent working for central government, and the last 4 he spent as a consultant in both the public and private sectors.

Sun, SunOS, and Solaris have been John's major computing interest for the, last 14 years. He is a certified Solaris system administrator as well as a member of the Institution of Analysts and Programmers and the Institute of Management of Information Systems.

John was the technical editor on the Solaris 2.6 Administrator Certification Guide, Part 11 and the Solaris 7 Administrator Certification Guide.
