Synopsis

Richard Davis was a turn of the century reporter known for his romance novels, plays and short stories. His years of experience as a war correspondent influenced much of his writing. In Soldiers of Fortune Robert Clay is a mining engineer who sometimes hires himself out as a mercenary. He and Hope Langham, the daughter of a rich industrialist, are caught up in a Latin American republic coup. When the coup threatens the mining company Clay works for, he leads the miners against the coup. The success of Soldiers of Fortune came just as the Spanish American War was about to begin and may have strengthened American opinion against Spain. .
