Synopsis
Someday
I am going to be
a great artist.
Today
I am off to help my dad
paint the shed.
It's hard to be content with the present moment when you are little. The future has infinitely more possibilities!
Here, the prolific and poetic Eileen Spinelli offers us the opportunity to truly enter the mind and heart of a little girl whose dreams reach well beyond today. With Spinelli's gift for capturing the authentic experience of a child and Rosie Winstead's utterly accessible and adorable artwork, this is sure to be a book that will inspire kids to think about what their own plans are for someday.
Children's Literature
The heroine of this picture book dreams big. Living her daily life she proudly tells the reader about all the amazing things she will do one day. She will make friends with a dolphin and win a gold medal in gymnastics. But even as she dreams of the future she is very aware of her present. I wish I could say that I absolutely loved this book. And there were moments when it won me over completely. The illustrations are sweet and lovely in their detail. The heroine of the piece is captured beautifully by the artist. The little heroine's big dreams inspire one to dream big dreams as well. But an inexplicable something was missing from this picture book. Sadly, as soon as I closed its pages I completely forgot about the story. Despite this drawback the text is not without some merit. It would make a good, fast read for children. It would also make a nice gift for any child who has big dreams. Reviewer: Monserrat Urena
