Library Journal
This excellently organized, succinct overview of bibliographic instruction (BI) touches on critical issues and provides questions, checklists, and references for self-study. It can be used to create a program, introduce new librarians to BI, or revitalize an established program. ``Long-term BI programs sometimes run in cycles--they live for a while, they grow and change, and sometimes they die.'' This title will guide staff through such changes. Heir to the Bibliographic Instruction Handbook , originally published in 1979 by the Bibliographic Instruction Section of the Association of College and Research Libraries, the Sourcebook is ``intended to be practical and easy to use.'' It is --featuring articles on learning theory, instructional design, and managing a BI program. Particularly helpful are sections on teaching methods and evaluation. Two-thirds of the readings in the several bibliographies have been published since 1986. Electronic bulletin boards related to BI are also listed. Highly recommended for all institutions engaging in BI.-- Barry Chad, Carnegie Lib. of PittsburghBook Details
