School Library Journal

Gr 3-5-- Four more entries in this British series, each of which has from 7-11 recipes. Most of the ingredients can be found in American supermarkets, and the dishes are representative of the country. The focus, however, is not as much on the recipes as on the country's food and eating habits. The full-color photographs are attractive and helpful; each book contains a map of the country or area (``Jewish'' refers to Israel); the people, the land, and the food are featured equally. Foreign words, when used, are defined. While the books are easy to read, the recipes are not child oriented; many involve frying meats or onions, and one directs a child to hollow out a whole Edam cheese. The ``Easy Menu Ethnic Cookbooks'' series (Lerner) focuses more on recipes, but it contains much of the same information. --Carolyn Jenks, Oyster River Elementary School, Durham, NH
