Overview

This is the third and final volume of a study devoted to analyzing Soviet naval doctrines and its impact on policy. Former U.S. naval officer Herrick identifies three schools of naval doctrine competing throughout the period: an "old" school based around the command of capital ships, a "new" school based around the use of submarines and air power, and a "Soviet" school that mixed elements of the previous two. This volume concentrates on the period 1981 to 1985, the last five years of Admiral Gorshkov's three decade career as Soviet Naval Commander in Chief. Annotation Β©2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
