Synopsis
As American reactions to Sputnik showed, space policy changes with political events and perceptions. It also interacts with larger public policy processes in the United States and abroad. It is in this sense, according to Sadeh (space studies, U. of North Dakota), that it is evolutionary. He presents 17 chapters that examine the formation and implementation of space policy on a number of levels. Three sections explore the topic from the perspectives of the historical context under which space policies emerge; the political actors and institutions that give rise to policy formulations and interpretations; and outcomes in the areas of the environment, law, commerce, and national security.
